Lively participation of major packaters led to continued upward trend in tea rates at Kochi auctions. The sturdy demand witnessed in dust grades pushed up rates in sale 38 and the normal price tag realisation went up to ₹199 from ₹196 in the prior week. Ninety-4 per cent of the made available quantity of four,52,203 kg was marketed.
The current market for PD grade hardly remained steady and tended to relieve. RD, SRD, SFD grades appreciated by ₹3-five, specifically blakcer teas with excellent liquoring qualities. The hike in price tag was much less for browner teas, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis claimed. The demand from Kerala unfastened tea traders was subdued.
In orthodox dust, a hundred per cent of the made available quantity of 22,000 was marketed and the current market was firm to dearer. A modest quantity was absorbed by exporters.
Nevertheless, the rising price tag momentum could not be witnessed in leaf versions mainly because of the subdued demand from packaters and exporters, specifically to CIS countries and other locations.
In orthodox leaf, the current market for Nilgiri whole leaf and brokens was irregular and reduced with more time margins of ₹5 to ₹10. The quantity made available was 2,35,592 kg. The normal price tag realisation was also down at ₹193 from ₹202 in contrast to the prior week.
In CTC leaf, the quantity made available was 1,01,525 kg, and 79 per cent of this was marketed. The current market for brokens and Fannings was hardly steady and tended to relieve. The upcountry buyers’ participation was much less in contrast to the prior weeks.
