Germany has tapped Mark Branson from Swiss money regulator Finma to head its beleaguered money watchdog Bafin, the finance ministry stated on Monday.

Mr Branson, a British-born mathematician with Swiss and British citizenship, will acquire up the new submit “in the center of the year”, the ministry stated.

He will thrive Felix Hufeld, who was sacked in January around Bafin’s failure to prevent the Wirecard fraud – Germany’s biggest accounting scandal in dwelling memory.

Mr Branson will be charged with employing reforms announced in February developed to allow the regulator to identify fraud much more quickly and efficiently, with a bigger concentrate on whistleblowers.
