WASHINGTON—President Biden plans to nominate University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann to provide as U.S. ambassador to Germany, turning to an ally who helped him create a international-plan center right after the Obama administration.
The White Household introduced Dr. Gutmann’s nomination Friday, earning her the 1st U.S. ambassador select to a Group of 7 country. Dr. Gutmann, the daughter of a German Jewish refugee, has served as president of the Ivy League institution considering the fact that 2004 and created thoroughly about constitutional democracy and human rights.
Immediately after serving as vice president, Mr. Biden labored with Dr. Gutmann to create the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Worldwide Engagement, which opened in 2018.
